Moak was a fourth-generation Malibu native who heroically served his community as a firefighter during the terrible Woolsey Fire. Moak’s heroism was undeniable, but like so many heroes, he carried a weight few could see. That weight-the intensity, the loss, the pressure of others relying on him-built up, and addiction crept in.
Despite his strength, despite the love that surrounded him, Moak found himself in a struggle he couldn’t fight alone. And when he lost the battle, his family, friends, and community mourned him and asked, What if?
What If There Had Been A Place For Him to Turn to?
A place where he wouldn’t have had to fight alone-a place where first responders, local heroes, and all who had carried the weight of the world could find healing?
That question is why Flight Plan was founded: to address the unique challenges faced by first responders and veterans struggling with substance abuse. The Flight Plan mission is to provide a safe and structured environment where individuals can transition from addiction to recovery, supported by professionals who understand their experiences.
Military personnel and first responders-firefighters, pilots, police officers, EMTs, and paramedics are the backbone of society. They protect, serve, and save lives daily, often in the face of unimaginable trauma.
However, the repeated exposure to these life-threatening and emotionally challenging situations takes an immense toll on their mental health, leading to increased risks of substance use disorders (SUDs) and other related challenges.
